About

This blog is the inane, wistful and sometimes interesting witterings of someone who has spent the vast majority of his life embroiled in technology, both at home and at work.

Currently working as a Chief Technologist for DXC.technology, I have been surfing the wave of technology right back from the days of teletypes and papertapes all the way to the current cloud and serverless computing paradigm.

Grounded at the old British technology company ICL in the mid 80’s I learning how to solder/desolder giant through hole mounted chips,  code in 128 bit 2900 Order Code, and feed punched cards, paper-tapes and punched cards into enormous old orange mainframe computers (see my blog on ICL days).  After a brief foray into the very ealry days of Artificial Intelligence, I moved on to another British technology company SD-Scicon in 1990, I progressed along a technical leadership path through Application and DB Development and Design, Client-Server and Multitier Solution Architecture, Infrastructure Solutioning, Enterprise Service Management moving through System and Enterprise Architecture and ultimately filling the role of Chief Technologist at a number of HP, HPE and DXC accounts.  I have delivered solutions ranging from ERP, Workplace, Public Websites, Hosting, Networks working across both Commercial and Public Sectors.

I am an OpenGroup certified IT Architect and a graduate of the EDS Next Generation Architect Programme.

Outside of work my home office is a toy box of technology currently including a 3D Printer, a Drone, a Robot Arm, 360 & GoPro Cameras, a large ‘punnet’ of Raspberry Pis, an Amazon Echo Dot, a Leap Motion, a MakeyMakey, too many Philips Hue Blulbs to mention and many wondrous bits of plastic, wires and metal either fabricated or repurposed by me for various mashups

I was a Parent Governor for 14 years at two local Stockport Schools.

My other interests are Manchester City FC (seasoncard holder for many years) and 4×4 Off Road Driving.
